Why Your Website Isn't Converting Visitors Into Leads

You built the website. You're getting some traffic. But the leads aren't coming in.

This is one of the most common frustrations we hear from small business owners in Vancouver. And it's not a traffic problem. It's a conversion problem.

Here's the thing about websites: they don't generate leads just by existing. Traffic is just the first step. What happens after someone lands on your page is what actually determines whether that visitor becomes a potential client.

Your Homepage Is Doing Too Much

Most small business websites try to explain everything to everyone. The result is a page that says a lot but communicates nothing.

A visitor who lands on your homepage has about 5 seconds to figure out three things: What do you do? Who do you do it for? And what should I do next? If your homepage can't answer those questions instantly, you're losing leads before they even get started.

There's No Clear Call to Action

A call to action isn't just a "Contact Us" link buried in your nav bar. It's a specific, compelling prompt that tells a visitor exactly what to do and why they should do it.

"Schedule a free 20-minute call" is a CTA. "Contact" is not. Every page on your site should have one primary CTA -- not three options competing for attention. One clear next step.

You're Talking About Yourself, Not Your Client

Scroll through your website copy. Count how many sentences start with "We." Now count how many talk about the problem the person reading has, or the outcome they want.

Most small business websites spend 80% of their space on what the business does, and almost nothing on the person reading. People don't care what you do. They care about what you can do for them. The best converting websites lead with the client's pain, not the business's resume.

Your Site Is Slow or Broken on Mobile

More than half of web traffic happens on mobile. If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, or your forms don't work properly on a phone, a huge chunk of your audience is already gone.

Pull up your website on your phone right now. Can you find the CTA? Does the contact form work? Can you read the text without zooming in? If the answer to any of those is no, you've found a conversion killer.

There's No Reason to Act Now

Most websites present what you do but give the visitor no reason to do something today rather than next week. Adding urgency or value to your CTA makes a real difference. A free consultation. A checklist. A quick-start resource. Something that makes acting now feel worth it.

What to Do About It

Your website is either working for you or against you. If it's not converting, it's doing the latter.

The good news: most of these fixes don't require a full redesign. They require clearer messaging, a better CTA, and copy that speaks to the person you're trying to reach. That's exactly the kind of work a fractional marketing team does every day. If you want a second set of eyes on your site, we're happy to take a look.
